“The projector is the modern camp fire,
where songs are sung, and stories are told.”

Chris Jordan has used his visual residency at the Bunker (Subtonic) to explore his fascination with the projected image, mixing realtime 3D or going old skool with slide projectors and camera manipulation. His tenure allows him to book other video artists, bringing together the visual community and creating opportunities for new stories to be told.

For the second year he co-curates the T-MINUS Film Festival, a showcase for emerging artists working in the medium of time. CJ (with co-curator Joshua Goldberg) has assembled a gallery exhibition to explore the defining patterns of the world in motion. T-Minus 2005 is on display at Synchronicity Space, 106 W. 13th St. The exhibition runs February 1, 2005 - February 26, 2005.

What slows down when everything is sped up, and what are the hidden patterns of motion? While most VJs use filters to distort, Chris Jordan uses time-lapse to reveal. CJ examines how technology is altering the solipsistic beliefs of society. His interest in time takes our perception of reality to the next dimension. It is all about challenging your perspective, something that CJ does well.

In Two Step Engine, the third track on the EyeWash 2 DVD, CJ captures footage from a six-hour party and sculpts it down to a four-minute mix to the funky Drum and Bass grooves of PH-10 Helmut Vision. The result is a non-linear time sampling that is not your normal watch-the-room-fill or fast-blooming-flower timelapse movie. It shows time is relative, and some lasting moments are but an instant.
