about the artists:

Vade designs and perform with his own realtime video software in an ongoing effort to find a means of dynamic expression through moving image. This self-professed enthusiast of video, audio, and data evnrinoments is a Researcher in Residence at Brooklyn Polytechnic University’s Integrated Digital Media program as well as an Adjunct Instructor at the New School Design and Technology department. His visual partner-in-crime is outpt (Mary Ann Benedetto), a digital media artist and programmer from NYC who teaches game development, graphics programming, and digital design at NYU:Poly. Accompanying them on audio is Aerostatic (Terry Golob and Michele Darling). They utilize artifacts of sound generated by digital and analog processing in conjunction with a variety of interactive technologies to compose and design audio environments for film, installations and music performance.

The electro-acoustic A/V duo of Adam Kendall (video) and Bradford Reed (music) strive to push boundaries and perceived limits of live A/V interaction. Relying on their ears and eyes, and intentionally avoiding technically automated or reactive systems, Reed plays his home-made, personalized Pencilina (a stringed percussion instrument) and Kendall uses his idiosyncratic, self-programmed video applications (made with Max/MSP/Jitter).

Peter Kirn will be performing a full on audiovisual set. This pixel pundit is a composer/musician, media artist, and technology writer based in New York City. He publishes and edits the sites Create Digital Music and Create Digital Motion, and writes for MAKE, Macworld, Keyboard, Computer Music (UK), and others. He is even the author of Real World Digital Audio, a book on making music with computers.

The video artworks of Lady Firefly are inspired and informed by her observations in music and nature; dreams and randomness; and by the ways in which people behave. She has dubbed her style of works as “electrorganic” – using technology as a way to maintain and discover what is most essential in living a good life, rather than allowing technology to create false and surface pleasures. Her videos in essence are “in alliance with the ocean and the dancing trees” and are sometimes akin to poems or songs; Vibrant in colors and open in feeling, unusual, graceful, sincere, with an underlying goofing–this is the ground where all her moving images emerge. A track from her recent FMT Studio Session is featured on Club Chroma, the new VJ channel on Joost. Tonight she mixes with DJ ActivePhaze, the aural glue of EyeWash who also has several contributions to the Club Chroma Channel.

Nyculture Rgb150Nyculture Rgb150EyeWash is an event where VJs and Video artists perform live-mix video, present audio visual performances in collaboration with Audio artists, workshop performance involving video and technology. EyeWash is also supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts.
