about the artists:
VJ Moto (aka Motomichi) is an animator and Vj based in New York city. He has performed at various events in Europe, the U.S and South America. His work includes TV commercials and music videos, most recently for the “The Knife”, and has been featured recently in “Motion Blur 2″ from Onedotzero. For this performance, Motomichi will play with music by Andrés Benavides, an accomplished jazz musician who composed an electronic music track specifically for this show.
Jon Keith Brunelle calls his work laptop storytelling: rapid-fire digital slide shows comprising hundreds of vintage movie stills, remixed to form satiric new stories that he tells in live voiceover. Jon founded The Psychasthenia Society in 2003, a series housed at Galapagos Art Space through summer 2005, featuring Jon in collaboration with video artist Daniel Vatsky and a rotating slate of renowned digital musicians. The Psychasthenia Society became a performance trio with the regular collaboration of musician Mad EP (Matthew Peters). Jon, Dan, and Matt developed and staged “The Nanolove Report,” a one-hour theatrical presentation that enjoyed a successful run at Collective: Unconscious during 2005 and 2006. Tonight he will deliver a brand new set of stories, just for EyeWash.
Lady Firefly is a visualist working out of Brooklyn. She has played her works all over NYC from the American Museum of Natural History to eclectic places around town, and internationally in Russia, Spain, Canada, and Australia. She is also the in house editor and video artist at Blue Man Group. She will present a new two-channel performance called Walking Gets in the Way - a hypnotic visual serum of a jellyfish and a woman in motion. She is accompanied by the amazing audio of Zemi17 and dok.
Naval Cassidy has been an instant cinema and sound performer for over fifteen years. Working solo, or with groups like Stackable Thumb and The Hands of Orlak, he has been a consistent presence in New York’s live video and performance scene. Through his special blend of video performance, Instant Cinema, Naval pulls delirious visions out of discarded broken objects, simply by placing each one under the watchful eye of his surveillance cameras.
EyeWash is an event where VJs and Video artists perform live-mix video, present audio visual performances in collaboration with Audio artists, workshop performance involving video and technology. EyeWash is also supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
