RE:Vision

Forward Motion Theater presents RE:Vision, a collaboration of live performances weaving multimedia and dance from a fresh critical perspective. The evening features five independent works by artists combining choreography, video, spoken word, and music. RE:Vision builds on Forward Motion Theater’s 6-year successful series EyeWash that fostered interdisciplinary collaborations between more than 200 digital media artists and live performers.

about the artists:
Kim Gibilisco Dances Kim Gibilisco began her professional performance career when she was invited by Mr Louis to join Murray Louis and Nikolais Dance. The New York Times has dubbed Ms Gibilisco “a firecracker of a dancer.” The Village Voice noted that Ms Gibilisco is “Louis’ most accomplished dancer. In May 2008, Ms Gibilisco launched her dance company, Kim Gibilisco Dances, at Merce Cunningham Studio in NYC. Her choreography has been presented at the Frederic Lowe Theatre, the Downtown Arts Festival, the DUMBO Arts Festival, the Nikolais Legacy Conference at Hunter College, the Maryland Choreographer’s Showcase and Dance Place in Washington, DC. Kim Gibilisco Dances has an upcoming season at Joyce SoHo March 11–13, 2010.
(+1-1) is the brainchild of director/choreographer James Roy Graber, a classically trained dancer and interdisciplinary theater artist. An active participant in the EyeWash series, poetry slams, and frequent collaborator with other artists, James has toured nationally and internationally with Hartford Ballet and American Repertory Ballet. His work has been shown at Broome Corner Studio, Henry Street Settlement, P.S.122, the adjudicated Philadelphia Fringe Festival and this past summer at the National Puppetry Festival in Atlanta. James performs for New York City’s Metropolitan Opera Ballet where his recent solo in “Madama Butterfly” was broadcast live to 600 theaters worldwide. Here (+1-1) presents the Arthurian legend, “Mordred’s Apology,” where alternate reality and alternative history mash with Tennyson and Malory.
Wetcircuit is Holly Daggers, a New York City-based VJ and Media Artist who creates and composes visual media in real time. Performances include concert VJ for Busta Rhymes, James Brown, Page McConnell, Moby, and T.I., and was voted a Top 20 VJ worldwide by DJ Magazine, UK. She has designed interactive video installations for the Museum of Modern Art and Chelsea Art Museum. Holly collaborates with musicians and choreographers presenting her media performances in both art gallery and theatrical settings, and has opened her shooting studio to create dance on video as a hybrid performance venue.
Urban Wash Dance Company is a fusion of dance and technology married to social and political consciousness. Movement vocabulary is derived from multidisciplinary sources enhanced by a high degree of athleticism. Urban Wash Dance Company is made up of dancers, video artists, DJs, and organized by Rebekah J Kennedy, Artistic Director/Choreographer. Performances and choreography have been featured throughout the United States.
Blind is dancer and choreographer Eric Dunlap. Based in New York City, Eric toured internationally as a principal dancer with Alwin Nikolais / Murray Louis Dance. He has worked with various companies such as Peter Pucci Plus Dancers, Rebecca Sten/Perks Dance Music Theater, Sarah Skaggs Dancer/Higher Ground Projects, Pilobolus, and Pink Inc., appeared on NBC’s Today Show and is currently a member of the New York City Metropolitan Opera Ballet. Eric graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts and is a black belt in Aikido.
ActivePhaze is Max N. Semenov, an international electronic musician and DJ. He creates original scores and remixes using turntables, software and hardware. Styles range from retro to neo and released on several Indie European labels such as Gargan Records, Altai Records, and A/V label Club Chroma. ActivePhaze is the resident DJ at #1 Front Street in DUMBO.
about Forward Motion Theater:
The mission of Forward Motion Theater is to explore the combination of movement and technology through live performance and digital media. Current projects include both live theater and new performance venues through video and the web. Forward Motion Theater was incorporated as a non-profit arts organization in 2001 and has achieved 501(c)3 status. Forward Motion Theater is dedicated to exploring forms of communication that resonate regardless of social or cultural heritage, and believes this approach will open the door to a future full of diversity and understanding.
