The Hudson Opera House offers a year-round schedule of arts and cultural programming in the 1855 former Hudson City Hall which contains New York State’s oldest surviving theatre. Since opening the first restored room in December of 1997, five rooms on the first floor have been rehabilitated, and we have presented thousands of cultural and educational programs, more than 850 in the last year alone. The Hudson Opera House provides free or low-cost cultural offerings every week of the year.

In this celebratory “live dance documentary”, FMT Co-Director Eric Dunlap joins dance legends Murray Louis, Phyllis Lamhut and Beverly Blossom join with over 25 other choreographers, dancers, teachers, and students onstage to honor Nikolais’ life and enduring influence.

Nikolais pushed beyond the boundaries of contemporary dance to create hallucinogenic wonders of movement, lighting, sound, and setting. A pioneer of multimedia technology, Nikolais’ prolific imagination shaped 20th-century performance and continues to inspire and astound artists and audiences today.

The 30 performers in this Nikolais version of From the Horse’s Mouth are outstanding dancers and choreographers. Each one tells their personal story about this reknown choreographer, and perform movement from his work.
