vBrooklyn Overview
vBrooklyn is a video festival about Brooklyn as a place and video as an artform. It documents the current, evolving state of Brooklyn, NY, through contemporary video art. The festival creates a forum exploring Brooklyn as inspiration. With Brooklyn itself the subject of the festival, we hope to create symbiosis between it and the resulting works.
We want to visually record Brooklyn’s skyline, architecture, activities and experiences before the current wave of development and population influx permanently change them — Our goal is video-artists building Brooklyn’s historic record through personal interpretation and factual documentation
vBrooklyn focuses on urban landscape while including works about the people and experiences that make Brooklyn a uniquely strong, identifiable city within a city.
vBrooklyn represents video through live performances, screenings and installations.
Criteria
Our major criteria is original video footage shot by the artist of Brooklyn’s cityscape, people and activities.
We seek pieces, performances and installations expressing what Brooklyn is — A place, a physical location, a landscape; A unique set of qualities defining people and an urban culture.
We seek pieces that approach video as an art form.
We are looking for personal expression. The underlying footage will provide the documentary element the festival wants to incorporate.
We are looking for new pieces showing Brooklyn in 2008 as well as older pieces exploring what Brooklyn once was.
Screened-pieces should be less than 10 minutes long. Performances should be less than 20 minutes long. If these limits are a problem, please email to discuss.
Logistics
Pieces will be presented through live performances, screenings and installations on IDMI’s 9 channel video system.
