Fingercut2Motomichi Nakamura’s evoë are four looped animations with music by Otto von Schirach. They are a part of New Media: What, the second of five small exhibitions that sample and contextualize electronic artwork at the Neuberger Museum of Art. A visit to Westchester’s premier collection offers viewers insights into the work of 20th Century masters, emerging artists, and cutting edge innovators.

MotopaintIn addition to VJ and animation work, Moto uses his video tools towards a traditional fine art side. He paints. Images are first drawn in a sketchbook, scanned into computer, and converted to vector graphics. The images are then projected onto a large canvas, traced and painted in acrylic. Look for an exhibition of these paintings soon.

On the EyeWash 2 DVD, Moto mixes to Black Sound, the pumpin’ house track provided by audio samurai TAMPOPO. Their collaboration was recently featured on WNYE’s broadcast program New York Noise in March. Killer bunnies with fangs, a knife wielding teddy bear, the bright colors of police lights in the barrio; these elements add up into a style that is in the moment vivid, cute, and dangerous. It is truly Moto’s content that makes him unique.
